Busting out of a rut

Screen Shot 2014-11-18 at 7.30.06 AMOh hi! It seems that when I fell into a running rut (an epic one), I also fell into a blogging rut. Well HELLO, I’m back and nearly out of my rut!

My runs for the past couple of months have been driving me crazy. I had lost my joy. I was hating it. But I also knew if I stopped running while feeling this way, it might be a million years before I laced up my shoes again. So I trudged forward. I kept getting up and showing up and moving forward even when it was the last thing I wanted to do. During this time my mental state in regards to my running fell into that old familiar mantra of “You are a joke. You are not a runner. Who are you trying to kid?”

So yeah, fun times there folks.

Fortunately, as bad as it got, I knew that it was temporary. And even more fortunately, I’ve got amazing coaches who worked me through it and gave me the tools (physical and mental) to start to make my way out of the sludge.

And do you know what happened?

I went out and placed 12th (out of 48) in my age group in a 5K last weekend with Team Nutribullet.

12th! That feels like 1st place to me. Only 11 women in my age group were faster. 36 were slower. I’ve never been that close to the front of the pack in a 5K before. (official time 35:08)

And then I had an amazing track workout where I FINALLY broke out of my “I only have one speed” mindset. I found my other gears. I found my sprint. I made enough progress that I’ve been floating ever since.

Moral of the story: Just Keep Moving Forward. 🙂
